The Silver Smiler

A very thought provoking read. This book is very adept at presenting the reader with a well though out story. The author takes his time to introduce us to Walter and his world. Despite all of the descriptive narrative, the reader is still left wondering just what is going on. Halfway through the read the story switches gears and presents the reader with a whole new scenario just as the reader is coming to terms with what is happening to the protagonist. This is a little jarring at first and like the main character, we are learning to accept what is happening to him. It is never clear at the end if this was something that happened to everyone, or just a select few, or even what really happened...but I believe this is the intent and this is okay. I think this was a very good read and I would certainly recommend it.
