I was introduced to The Scavenger by the author and right away, I was interested. I love horror and lately have been reading more MG and YA books as they make for quick and usually fun reads. This one is no different.
When it comes to rating YA Horror I have to keep in mind the age-range this may be set for while I'm reading. While the kids in this book are in high school, this sometimes had a MG feel. Best age-range for this one would probably be between 12 and 14.
Jared, Jessica and Aidan are a great team of characters. I loved how their friendship actually ties into the wishes unknowingly made and granted. I also love how, through their friendship, they work the clues to solve the town's mystery.
At times, the story seemed to jar off into a different direction and I had to double-back to re-read a bit to see what I missed. This messed with the flow for me some. Overall though, a good read and I'm looking forward to the next book.
This would be the perfect read for October. I would say adults who don't read horror often could enjoy this one as well.
