this is tough, it was a well written and well researched book, but roosevelt was stupid and ill prepared- he thought he was going glamping. thank god the brazilian guy was a stud, otherwise those idiots woulda have been hella dead. so i can't really recommend this over “real” exploration stories

Interesting and entertaining, but somewhat scattered. Passage of time was sort of confusing, and the author seemed to have several motifs she wanted to convey, but it was sort of a mixed bag. Not as good as Destiny of the Republic, but definitely recommendable.
