Have you ever wondered what it would have been like if Dorothy didn't go the way of the Yellow Brick Road? What other direction would she take? Would she be the same person, just trying to get back to Kansas? Or would her darkest, deepest, and most selfish desires take over and lead her down the wrong road...
This was a really fun MG fantasy retelling. You start off with Dorothy already having vanquished the evil witch and beginning her journey to the Wizard of Oz. However, at the start of the yellow brick road she is met by a merchant who beguiles her with his words and talks her into going on the Red Brick Road instead.
During the course of her journey, she is tested and often fails. She puts others in harm's way and often thinks of herself first. She also learns what it is to be a true friend, to sacrifice self over wants and fears. By the end of her journey, she is whole.
I am sincerely glad the author reached out and told me about this book. I obtained a copy on my own and enjoyed it so much I finished in one sitting. It is a quick, meaningful, and enjoyable read.
