Meet Prunella ‘Pru’ Parke, an American gardener who digs up murder and mystery wherever she goes.
Pru lands her dream job: head gardener at rambling old Primrose House in Sussex. Only to find that it’s no bed of roses.
Pru’s tasked with restoring the wild estate back to its original glory. But the motley team of helpers may need taming first. And someone seems determined to be a thorn in her side.
But small acts of vandalism around the garden soon turn to murder.
Local widower and gardening enthusiast Ned Bobbins was supposed to be pruning the yew trees. Instead he’s the one who got the chop.
Pru checks her tool shed — and discovers her trusty hatchet is missing. When it surfaces again, wrapped in a red jacket, the police immediately point the finger at another one of Pru’s band of misfits.
But Pru’s not convinced. She knows her team is a bit unruly, but surely none of them are capable of murder.
Can she catch the killer before anyone else comes under the ax?

I was not a fan of the characters at first, but they grew on me. I enjoyed the entire story of Pru Parke and not just the mystery part. She and her friends are likable characters. This is book #2 in the series. However, I did not need to read #1 to understand this one. And it ended in such a way that #3 could show up just about anywhere. I can't wait to see where Pru goes next.
