I really enjoyed The Pucking Wrong Number. It is a dark hockey romance with a morally grey MMC.
Lincoln is a very hot, successful hockey player who falls in love at first sight with Monroe, a struggling waitress/college student. Lincoln becomes an obsessive and possessive stalker, determined to make Monroe fall in love with him.
In my opinion, Lincoln goes too far in his endeavor to help Monroe and give her everything. However, I did fall in love with him before and after the incident in question.
I really loved the texting between Linc and Monroe at the beginning. I also loved the friendship between Linc and Ari, and I can't wait for more.
I chose this, despite having a severe ick towards books with “pucking” in the title, because I read The Wrong Quarterback and really enjoyed it. It’s a spin off of this series, so it made sense to get into this one.
All the regrets!
I don’t know why the high rating, because while yes this is “dark and morally grey anti-hero” it was not good.
I didn’t like the FMC, she was annoying and I didn’t think she had any backbone to stand up for herself in any aspect. Yes she had a tragic childhood but overall I just felt she lacked.
The MMC Lincoln, yes was unhinged but so delusional.
His family/home life was wild and inexcusable, but I did not find any redeeming quality for me to root for him.
I’m all for stalker/dark/obsessive but there was no reason other than she was pretty. I don’t know if it was the writing style or this specific story, but it missed the mark for me.
MMC was completely unhinged near the end of the book. Didn't quite see it going down that path.
2.5 stars
This was the Lost in Romance Book Club pick for April. It was also the first book I've ever read from this author. I can say the author did a good job at making me want to keep reading the book to find out how things played out and for that reason I will definitely give this author another try however I'm really torn on this book. I was going back and forth on what to rate this book. It was between 2.5 stars and 3 stars and ultimately I ended up going with 2.5 stars. This book just didn't fully work for me. I think the reason it didn't work for me is because 2 complete strangers became obsessed with each other granted one more than the other but still it was beyond instant obsession and everything that happened after just didn't make sense not to mention it was off the rails crazy but at the same time I didn't want to DNF it so the author must have done something right which is why I said I'm willing to give something else by this author a try.
Okay look, I had an absolute ball reading this. I was highly entertained. But there were also times I had to suspend my disbelief so hard I forgot the meaning of the word.
“That's not xxxxx works!” and “Is no one else concerned about xxxx???” were said aloud quite often, but apparently I was in the mood for extra and ridiculousness. I'm still shaking my head at how the reveal/climax(?) went down because it doesn't make sense , but I also can't stop thinking about how great of a stalking, overly possessive hero Linc is.
So yeah, go in this for an OTT possessive hero, hockey vibes, and a wild ride, but don't think too deeply about everything.
Some parts I was like this is good! Then Monroe would talk and it would all go back down hill. That girl thought with her pussy and her pussy was stupid.
