This book did not turn out at all like I thought it would, but for this I am glad. The Name of the Wind isn't your typical fantasy novel, it doesn't focus on the magic, or sympathy as this world calls it, it focuses on the struggles Kvothe goes through to attain a place in life. At times it's dark and cruel, but it can warm your heart as well. I especially liked the parts about Denna and Kvothe because they did not turn into sappy romance, but built into something more complex than just love. What I enjoyed the most about this book were the descriptions. I can't stand a book that gives heady descriptions, quiet honestly I prefer to create my own images of how people and places look. Rothfuss gives descriptions almost in the form of poetry, short unique bursts of detail that flows so smoothly. This was a great debut and I can't wait to read more of Patrick Rothfuss!
