A fantasy novel by Michael Scott, the second book in the six part series, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel.
15 year old twins, Sophie and John Newman are now in Paris with the alchemyst, Nicholas Flamel and his friend, Scathach. They now face Niccolò Machiavelli and his rival but also colleague John Dee.
While avoiding Machiavelli and Dee they travel to some friends of Flamels who help Sophie with her new powers and train her in controlling her aura and using elemental magic of fire.
This is definitely a children's series it is a good book and series however the twins are I.mature especially Josh, which is expected with them being children. This book definitely has more action than the previous book.
I like how the book is partly based on real historical people and also myths however some action scenes where a little too long.
I liked this one a bit more than the first one. And my question from the first book was answered!
Ngebuuuuut bacanya. Seri ini bener2 membuatku tertarik... Mitos2 yg muncul namanya bbrp sama dgn yg muncul di Percy Jackson, namun kuakui ak lebih menikmati buku ini. Lanjut the sorceress....
Part two. The action picks up and we are introduced to more wonderful people. The causes of their actions are not clear. We know what side they are on, but not who they are looking out for. Can't wait to see what happens next.
I'm starting to agree with other readers. Josh IS super annoying. He's so whiny that even his twin comments on it at one point. While I still think that it's a part of being thrust in this crazy situation it's getting harder and harder to be understanding. Sophie's not happy about the situation either, but she's not irritating....so much.
I loved the new characters. I even found myself intrigued and almost liking Machiavelli. He's still hanging onto his humanity, whereas Dee has nothing left. Still, I am most interested in Perenell and what's happening on Alcatraz.
The action marches on in this second book as well although, there are moments of downtime where we get more and more bits of history revealing Nicholas & Perenell's parts in it. It's hard to see how they can stop the events in motion, but I'm along for the ride.
I have to admit, this book was better than the other. All the things that happen here. Let's start by Jane of Arc. OMG! When I saw she was alive...I died. I'm also sick of Josh and his stubbornness. It's just so annoying! And Maquiavelo. Oh, God. I saw it and I couldn't believe it. Then Perenelle, my beautiful Perenelle. She's almost free and she met this spider who's name is too weird to write here. I love Perenelle. And Morrigan is going to be locked! And last but not least, I still live Scatty and I must confess that I never felt sad when Dagon took her, I know she's alive. I can feel it. In my bones. This book was really good, definitely. I loved it. I highly recommend this.
I'm liking the series I just find that at times it rambles. I think the author goes into historical details at the wrong times. It always seems to be when something action packed is about to happen. It slows down the story when at that moment the author should have ran with it. At the same time some of the action packed details are kind of chaotic and you can't really understand or picture what is happening at the moment. All in all I'm glad I'm done with the book and on with the next one.
Like the first book, the adventures of the twins of legend are still thrilling. I love how Machiavelli has his own powerful ways to get to the twins fast and unlike Dee, he uses gadgets to contact other allies. Every chapter leaves a good cliffhanger that made me want to read more.
love these books. My review is at http://bookwi.se/the-magician-by-michael-scott/
