A Nobel Peace Prize nominee and the first Goodwill Ambassador the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking of the United Nations and winner of the Vaclav Havel Human Rights Prize, Nadia Murad is a courageous young woman who has endured unimaginable tragedy (losing 18 members of her family) and degradation through sexual enslavement to ISIS. But she has fought back. This inspiring memoir takes us from her peaceful childhood in a remote village in Iraq through loss and brutality to safety in Germany. Courage and testimony can change the world: this is one of those books.

God, what a horrific book. I don't really even know how to review it.
It is well written, explains the situation well, giving background on the Yazidi religion and people, their lives and villages, and it explains the spread, like a disease, of ISIS. A more morally corrupt bunch of terrorists the world hasn't know.
It is a terrible story, and obviously one of courage and determination, but the author is clear that she is only one of many, and others were perhaps treated even worse than her. Nadia Murad was awarded a (joint) Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 for her “efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict”
