My sisters and mother and I decided to create our own book club. This was the first book we chose to read.
I truly believe my love of this book is due to my love of gardening.
The Language of Flowers is the story of a young woman who has just reached the age where she is no longer a ward of the state and must learn to take care of herself. Almost immediately, she begins working for a florist. While she makes many mistakes in her life, and takes some wrong turns, the story flows as she uses the language of flowers to show emotion in her daily life, while also sharing with others.
One reviewer mentioned this was similar to Janet Fitch's White Oleander, however I completely disagree, as I have read both and feel White Oleander was more like what I refer to as “Horror Fiction”. This was much less horror and more general fiction.
Amazing to know this was Vanessa Diffenbaugh's first book and I look forward to finding more by this author.
