I can't speak to the autistic, sex work, and Vietnamese representation but I absolutely loved this!! Every line was written with such care and romance. The characters have so much chemistry, seeing it in this made me realise that that chemistry is missing in so many more works. An amazing read
1.75/2 stars
The only reason I'm rounding up is because of the representation in this book. The only plus.
But urghhhh, I hated everything else in this book, from the cringey dialogue, to possessive and pushy characters (cough Michael *cough) , to the way that I felt like it implied that people find happiness from being in relationships and giving grandbabies to their parents, to some of the worst (&cringeyest) smut scenes I've ever read to the fact it was almost like the book was trying to suggest (as other reviews have pointed out) that it's possible to fuck away autism. Ummm... No thank you.
I literally don't even know how this book has a 3.94 in RATINGS!!! this book was something else... I went into it blind well somebody did say she hired somebody to teach her how to kiss and umm nope NO JUST NO THAT WAS NOT THE PURPOSE HONEYYYYYYYY!!! HE WAS TEACHING HER HOW TO FUCK OK... HOW. TO. FUCK.
This book was amazing.. the audiobook was chef's kiss.. i literally DID NOT ANSWER MY DAD CALL AND HE CALLED 4 HRS AGO... so maybe i should call my dad back now!! but I mostly know why this book is popular on booktok. I totally recommend it
What a book.
I loved how well Stella's character and struggles were portrayed without making her being less than herself. She didn't let it define her in a bad way.
And Michael's own issues were also super well described.
I loved their chemistry, their understanding, and even if their stubbornness brought tears to my eyes, it was worth it.
Now I need to read everything written by Helen because I'm pretty sure I'll feel as content as I feel now ♥
I loved this book so much! Now I truly understand the hype around it - it definitely deserves it! Such a beautiful, heartwarming story that everyone needs to read. And the smut is great as well ;)
I. Love. This. Book.
Contemporary romance not my usual genre, mostly fantasy & thriller/mystery. But in the past I gave It Ends With Us(CoHo), Ugly Love (CoHo), The Hating Game (Sally Thorne) & Tangled (Emma Chase) 5 solid stars, because I'm addicted to them.
So I borrow this title from library because of the hype. And I'm so obsessed with Stella & Michael. It's a perfect blend of sweet & steamy. I enjoy every sweet & smutty scene of this story. Did I ever tell you I love good smutty scene??
I honestly really loved how this book approached dating while on the spectrum, being on the autism spectrum is definitely a underrepresented group when it comes to novel and media, and I think this novel portrayed it well, while not having one dimensional characters.
This one was an absolute delight. Psychologically rich and compelling. Seems like I need to read more contemporary romance.
rating-4/5This review may contain spoilers, please do not read it if you haven't read the book yet.“She didn't know how to be semi-interested in something. She was either indifferent . . . or obsessed.”― Helen Hoang, The Kiss Quotient The Kiss quotient follows Stella Lane, an econometrician who is on the autism spectrum and wants to improve her skills in the physical aspects of dating. She decides to hire an escort to help her do this and ends up meeting Michael, a male escort who is financially struggling. Soon enough their arrangement starts to make sense and they find themselves drawn to each other while still dealing with their own problems.I loved the book! It was a fun, fast paced read and had me smiling throughout. Stella's character was extremely well written. I loved how the author portrayed disorders and the stigma, the mental turmoil and everyday problems that come with living with it. I've had it on my tbr since i found out it was an own voices novel of a woman with Asperger's and I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. A few minor setbacks for me were: - how Michael was put on a pedestal for simply being a decent human being - a few instances where Stella was apprehensive of trying something and Michael talks her into trying it out felt a little icky to me.- some of the side characters were very flat and had inconsistent characterisation. However, there was more to like than dislike in [b:The Kiss Quotient 36199084 The Kiss Quotient Helen Hoang https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1527983633l/36199084.SX50.jpg 57828311]. The protagonists stand out as well developed characters. As I mentioned above, I loved Stella. How she defined love as a variable in economics was also unique and something I loved. Our male protagonist, Michael was also an absolute sweetheart. The depiction of his family, culture and Vietnamese heritage is an integral part of the book. His interactions with his family, the banter with his sisters and the love and support shown by them throughout, stood out to me. What makes this book and others with mental health representation truly important, is that it helps people become aware and increases diagnosis rates. Infact the author's research for this book helped her understand her own symptoms, seek a therapist and get diagnosed on the spectrum. You should definitely pick this up if you've had it on your tbr:)
3.3/5
-a lot spicier than i expected... books should have ratings..
-i rly liked the viet representation
-gave some insight to autism
-plot was ehh, i could barely finish this towards the end. this doesn't make me excited to read the rest of the books.
I just thoroughly enjoyed this. Perfect balance of spicy yet sweet. I was rooting for the characters & wishing for the best for them.
Very cute, fluffy and steamy romance!
The only thing I didn't enjoy was the miscommunication in the end, it felt forced and could have been done differently.
As my first dive into a romance novel, I have to say I can't believe I've skipped this genre for most of my life. I've never felt so seen by how Helen portrayed Stella's character. I cried; I laughed; I was on edge multiple times. Expertly written and incredibly fun. I'm obsessed with this series now and can't wait to read book 2.
When I saw on Goodreads that Emily May calls this book her favorite romance book ever, I had to give it a try. And well, I've only put it down when I had to, or else I would still be reading it. I am half way through it right now and it's good! Like, very good! Like I am so excited that there are two more books after that 0_0! It's about Stella, a successful, smart, beautiful woman who loves her job as an econometrician, but also happens to have autism. She struggles with relationships and sex, and with most social interactions. One day, she decides to improve her skills and who better than a professional escort to help her? The plot might be cheesy but the book is so good. It's cute, tender, and realistic. The sex scenes are really good. I really love the two characters and their chemistry. I don't know, it's a good book that makes me giggle huhuhu.
Update: So, I just finished the book. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it! And I am so happy that they are both happy and successful at the end :). I knew that this book was part of a series, but I am surprised that it doesn't follow their adventure, but instead, the lives of other members of their families. I guess that makes sense. They have been through enough drama together haha. And now, I just want them to be happy.
loved some things, rolled my eyes at others. overall i thought it was a cute read.
