This was my first book by Elin Hilderbrand and I don't think it'll be my last. She paints an immersive picture of the island of Nantucket in this story about a haunted hotel and the people who work there. The newly renovated Hotel Nantucket is in need of a staff, and it seems like each person hired has some secrets to hide. In addition to everyone trying to keep their secrets, a ghost lives in the hotel. Grace, the ghost, wants the secret surrounding her death to be revealed so she can be free. This book was outside of my usual genre but came highly recommended, and I really liked it. There are a few romantic subplots but I wouldn't say it's the main theme of the book at all. The Hotel Nantucket is an adult fiction novel, 18+ for themes and content
I love books that follow a group of people, and do it well. This book does that. All of the characters were distinct and all of their lives were interesting. I liked that there weren't really any unlikable characters. The ones that you could potentially dislike had redeeming qualities. The ghost aspect was a little silly, but it helped move the plot along. I liked Chad and Alessandra the best because they were the most morally gray characters. This is my first Elin Hilderbrand book, and it was better than I was expecting it to be based on cover judgements alone. I'll have to get a few more.
Elin Hilderbrand does an excellent job of writing character-driven lighthearted books. Her characters feel so real and they have their flaws. I loved the hotel setting and the story of getting the coveted “five keys”. The ending tied up all of the side plots in a nice little bow, with some unexpected twists (like the identity of the mysterious blogger) and I really enjoyed reading the “Blue Book” at the end of Elin's personal recommendations. Such a great summery read; her books feel like a hug.
I'm new to Elin Hildebrand and her Nantucket novels. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and Erin Bennet's narration. I have to read more of her summer novels and I want to read more novels about the comings and goings at high end hotels.
Absolutely loved this book! Elin does not disappoint as usual. I loved how she added a bit of mystery to this book as well. The ending totally surprised me and made the book go from almost being a 3 star to a 5. If you are a fan of Elon's past books you won't be disappointed with this one!
