This is the first guy character who we weren't introduced to in the first book. Finn didn't go to school with the other guys, but he is a player on Dex's team. We did see some of Finn and Chess in Dex's book, because this book kind of takes place during the same time as Dex and Fiona.
While I enjoyed this book, I just didn't feel like I connected to the characters much. Chess kept trying not to grow I think was part of my issue. All the problems seemed to revolve around her stubbornness. Yet, I understand why she would want to protect herself, so I can't be too annoyed with her. I like how sassy and quirky she is which works with how charming Finn is.
Their relationship is slow going though. I am always happy when these things take time. Friends -> Roommates -> Lovers. I really liked it and I can't wait for book 5.
Nothing more enjoyable than reading about two equally strong characters pitted against each other in the romance stakes.
And when the hero is a big, sexy, alpha, footballer...score!
Thoroughly enjoyed this.
Wow.. This book was unexpectedly good. I used to be very much into star crossed lovers, destined romances a long time ago and I have only started reading them again. This book was very enjoyable with good themes of friends turned lovers, importance of communication between partners and dealing with grief.
I especially loved Finn who despite being the famous great looking quarterback is also very funny, flirty, sometimes cheesy and not above showing his vulnerable side to the woman he loves. Chess is fierce and sassy and though she has her own issues with loss and abandonment, it was great to see her give a chance to herself to fall in love.
The writing is very funny and easy flowing, the banter between Chess and Finn is quite adorable and sexy and the development of their romance is done very well. I never thought I would I would like sports romances, considering I know nothing about football but I thoroughly loved this one and will probably check out other books by this author.
I really liked this book at first, up until the point where Chess & Finn went to visit his parents. When they finally made their relationship official, their chemistry fizzled out and the book started to drag.
Also there were a lot of typos. Usually I can get past a typo here and there but it felt like I was coming across one on every page and it became distracting.
