Despite my fears of the book being overhyped and overrated, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was definitely a pleasant surprise as well as a worthwhile read.

Douglas Adams has a very original style of writing, with superb storytelling and well-written characters (considering how laconic their descriptions were), which I did not expect from this book. The whole story is well-structured and the idea is very unusual and creative. Everything is interconnected in a clever way and I did not expect the ending.

Some jokes are a bit too silly, though, and the introduction of the female character (yes, a female character, sadly) had the biggest focus on describing her appearance, but other than that I enjoyed this book.
