This book takes place in two time periods simultaneously: following a young novice turned painter in the 16th century and a woman studying one of her paintings in 2015. Mira's story is compelling enough (though it does sort of fizzle out at the end for sequel bait), and the ways Zari slowly uncovers her history ring true. Unfortunately the writing style is a little boring and the contemporary romance is extremely stupid.
