I enjoyed this much more than Baker's first book. Her writing has really improved. What kept me vested in the story was the characters. I loved Jo, Mr. Weatherby, and even Whit. I thought they were original, and managed to have that small town/ local legend feel to them. The magical realism with the salt was great. Overall, this is great story.
I had some problems connecting with Dee, as she is described as being dimwitted, but when Dee is telling the story, that was not the case. I also found Ethan to be an enigma, and still do not understand his motivations.
I will recommend this to fans of Alice Hoffman and Sarah Addison Allen and look forward to more from Baker.
