Why tf do the last 100 or so pages of a book have to be so heart wrenching?!😩 Like I knew this book would be left on a cliffhanger(which I somewhat spoiled myself for it, but I still read on since I didn't have all of the context), but goddamn it was interesting in the worst way possible. And out of anything that I was expecting to happen, it for sure wasn't what happened to Lyra. Like I had a feeling she was gonna win and everything(cause that's of course some main character shit), but for her to end up in tartarus was wilddd. And it honestly made Rima's prophecy make so much sense, cause like I was honestly thinking that Hades was gonna turn out to be a horrible guy and go on a whole ass rampage. Still, the fact that he's probably gonna go on a rampage because of Lyra ending up where she isn't supposed to was something I wasn't really expecting.
Anyway, I actually really loved this book lmao. It had the right amount of romance and action, in my opinion, and I wouldn't want to change a single thing about it. Once the next book is out, I for sure am going to get it and read it. I really want to see what happens with Lyra, Hades, and the others!
This book came up in my "Unlimited" list and the premise sounded interesting. The Greek gods live on earth and every so often each of the 12 main ones chooses a mortal to enter a "game" of quests as their proxy. The first person narrator is a woman is her early 20's who is chosen by Hades to play/fight for him so he can become the King of the Gods. So far so good. Turns out though that the book is way too long! The first quests are exciting, yet they soon get repetitive. I also found the competing characters hard to track and remember who was who. And then there's the unlikely romance between the narrator and Hades which did not feel authentic at all. I thought I was getting a thriller here. Turned out it was a romance novel with a long and often hard to follow group of supporting characters.
This was honestly so fun and I'm already excited about the next installment. Lots of action, clever use of myth, and an interesting premise. Couldn't put it down.
Completely changed the hadesxpersepohne story and I hated that. Not a fan of the fmc. Loved the world building and challenges.
