A lovely book, actually. The first few chapters need some pushing on, since the situation seems almost too bleak for some of the characters, but then the story picks up. It is almost more about character than plot, which makes for a nice change.
3.5, without a shadow of a doubt and only because I'm stingy with my stars. I've started it after the last one I read by her and which was amazing, so I ended up thinking this one was less incredible. but it still was solid as a story, with real characters and interesting lives. Old fashioned good book for a vacation, you know? not to be read in a sitting as I usually do, but over a fortnight on the beach or a rest somewhere quiet.
