- disclaimer: this is the first of Greene's books that I've read, so I can't compare it to his other works.

- apparently the most autobiographical of his works.

- the characters seemed one-dimensional, or at least so intensely inhabited by a single burning emotion or cause that they seemed that way.

- The exploration of the psychology of jealousy, love, betrayal, etc was very enjoyable, and could be the the primary draw of this book.
