Mel Bright is an outstanding author. She takes a nugget of something we know - from mythology, history, or some other area of knowledge - and then turns the small nugget into something entirely new and fascinating, a whole magnificent world - dazzling, intricate, and full of unexpected twists. The Devil You Know is a dark dystopian story with a unique flavor and characters that are interesting, vibrant and multilayered. Essentially we have two time frames that co-exist in complete harmony - one traces the events that shaped Jon Shaw as a person, experiences and life choices, and the other is the grim reality that John lives in and why he does what he does. And Jon is definitely a character who cannot be easily forgotten. He has embraced the Darkness and learnt how to live with it, feeling more comfortable to coexist with what everyone else fears than the human kind that has let him down in more way than one in more than one occasion. Once again this author has created a story that a reader can't put down and I personally was wondering who is the Devil and what is the greatest evil - humanity stripped bare from any empathy or the demonic unknown that in some ways has given Jon more than any human in his life. Definitely worth some rethinking! I loved the author's interpretation of demonology and the complicated ties between them - Lucifer, Lilith, Azeroth, Abadon. Every little detail was well thought and connected to the others.
Thank you for one amazing ride in this thrilling and a little bit scary futuristic world where Earth isn't only a home for the human kind anymore!
