absolutely loved this. Josh and Drew are total opposites, and after being stuck on a family vacation together, they become close. Drew is currently dating Josh's brother Six, but they are on rocky grounds. Josh is on vacation with his ex, but his mother invited her and nobody wanted to say no to her.
Six is not into the vacation and is either ditching the activities, or drinking. Josh wants to support his mom so he sucks it up and tags along. Drew doesnt want to rock the boat further, so she sticks with it too.
Josh doesnt like her - or so Drew assumes. She is a famous singer, known by all, and he is a doctor in under previlliged countries trying to provide just the basic amount of health care in war zones.
Drew doesnt want Six the way he assumes she does, and she cant stop looking at his brother Josh.
It was so sweet to see how Josh allowed her to be herself. He allowed her to be brave, and stand up for what she wanted. she is unhappy with her career but doesnt feel like she can speak up about it. He gives her the space and the opportunity to be brave.
the two have an undeniable amount of chemistry, and end up becoming closer, and then sneaking around to avoid suspicion with the family. The ending was sweet, and there was a lot of angst and banter with these two. love this series
I loved the first book in this series, but this one just didn't do it for me.
I think I liked the few mentions of Hayes more then Joshua throughout the book lol
Anyway, i shouldn've just dnfd this when I lost interest. I didn't care about the characters at all, and they barely had any tension and angst, for the fact that she is his brother's girlfriend. I was expecting SOME level of taboo, but this was very insta love.
Also, the book has a segment with a lot of unnecessary misunderstandings that really frustrated me and overall I did not root for this couple.
Also, one of the things I loved most about the first book was the amazing banter between the characters, and this didn't even come close.
I will say I loved the vacay vibes and the Hawaii settings, though.
I'm still intrigued by Ben's appearence and would be interested to read the next book, bit this just wasn't it.

Good news! The sequel to A Deal with the Devil was just as good, if not slightly better!! This one took me just slightly longer to read because I picked it up right as I was leaving work on Friday, and then well, it's next to impossible to read over the weekend. So it took me like...three days to swallow this one down, but omg. I could have read it in 5 hours like I did the first one! O'Roark is absolutely phenomenal at creating bickering characters that are perfect for each other. I loved reading Drew and Josh butt heads — they loved picking at each other and then all the sudden, Josh was protective. I love that in a hero, so...yes. Sign me up for more of this.
ANYWAY, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is Drew's story — she featured semi-regularly in A Deal with the Devil, but honestly, you don't need to read that one to understand what's going on here. It's very self-contained which is another great thing about these books. Regardless, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is about what happens when Drew is invited along to her on-again-off-again boyfriend's family's vacation. I never really caught on to why she agreed to go — Six made her so angry and upset — but she did go, and boy was that the right decision. I don't need to summarize this — it's all in the synopsis above.
I felt so bad for Drew almost the entire novel. She was so unhappy with her life and just sort of...muddled through it. She didn't know how to get out, how to make it better, or even that she could make it better until she really got to know Josh. He woke her up from her life. Watching him watch her, watching him take care of her in his own way... well, it was just...chef's-kiss amazing. Then you turn around and see how Six treated her. Oof. No comparison. I loved that Josh wanted Drew to fix her life for her, not so they could be together.
I wasn't a fan of the Somalia scenes just because it felt...rushed. How on earth did Drew have no idea how bad it was there? Felt a little forced and a lot White-savior-y. Unfortunate, and unnecessary.
I loved this book, and yes, I'm going right into the next one. Don't wait up for me!
Elizabeth never fails to deliver.
The banter, the tension, the character development, we have it ALL. I was up until 3am (THREE FREAKING AM) because I could not put this down. This book is so good that I was highlighting paragraphs not just a few quotes here and there.
I didn't think I could love another couple as much as I love Tali & Hayes, but here I am confessing that Lina & Josh have stolen my heart.
