I kinda lost steam with this trilogy, maybe bc I had to interject some forced SJM-reading time in the middle. I feel like this trilogy's worldbuilding is so straightforward compared to SJM's wild-ass shit, and the characters are generally well-created (Marco does still just seem like a cartoon gay stereotype like...at least he's fun and got his magical HEA too??? I'll take it)whatever it was fine, like somehow I think it's better quality than SJM books but has less of the secret unhinged spice that makes me crave SJM?:
I cannot believe I chose and kept choosing this book. Keegan is wonderful to everyone except Breen and she just accepts it. And there is no romance between them. Just a mild attraction and sex. World building is lacking. Mfc falls flat. The plot is lost in retelling each of the 7 interesting scenes to every character in the valley. And it's slightly homophobic in that Keegan and the god got on page sex but Marco didn't. The god's wasn't even entirely consensual.
It was good and a good ending at that. I would have loved a short story to come after though to see what happens in Talamh next. There's so much promised and we never get to see it!
Gave me all the feels! The mandolorian reference made me laugh out loud! Other things made me laugh and gave me lumps in my throat and even a couple of tears! I wish there was a fourth book!
3.5 stars. Another Chosen One heroine and her alpha hero in the final battle against the Big Bad. Nora Roberts isn't George R.R. Martin, so you know neither of the MCs are going to be killed, but watch out for those who are important to the secondary characters (thank goodness Roberts doesn't go the "bury your gays" route. I wish the romance between Breen's BFF Marco and his dragon-riding warrior Brian was a little more interesting, but I'm still impressed that Nora featured a queer couple for the first time.
