I just finished the Cerberus Affair by Charlotte Valentine and here is my review.
Catherine Preston, a currently out of work investigative reporter, is troubled by the death of her best friend, a man his wife is adamant was in danger and had been murdered.
His job as a health minister led him to some dangerous information, information he wanted Catherine to have.
Her life now in danger too, Catherine discovers that the corporate corruption runs deeper than she knew existed and that they will silence anyone who gets in their way. The genetic breakthrough is a game changer and is she willing to risk it all to protect it and the man she loves?
The premise was really quite exciting. The whole conspiracy theory proves conspiracy fact is something I live and breathe. Brilliant cover too, vibrant colors and the title really worked well with the theme of the book. I found I was super jazzed to start reading!
I found the character development charming. Catherine is the epitome of the kind of person I adore and watching her go to the lengths she goes to for the truth.... Inspiring. I loved the chemistry between her and Clayton, whose work had a lot to do with Catherines investigation. I don't normally like so much romance in my thrillers but this time it worked amazingly well.
I really enjoyed the journey from start to finish. I loved the story building, the pace was perfectly set, I didn't find it lulled anywhere and I literally crushed the book in a day. The information on the gene therapy and the medical jargon was given in a really clever way and I never felt like I didn't understand what was going on. Have a slight bookish crush on Clayton so brava!!
The balance of thriller and romance was a pleasant surprise and I challenge anyone to not enjoy this beautiful written work of art.
4.5 stars! If you love the kind of thriller that keeps you turning the page, then this one has to be on your list!
