okay so hear me out, there were five or six illustration that made me stop and stare at its calming beauty.
but the rest, even for a coffee table kids book type, it was very poorly written. cliché upon cliché, just not my vibe really. it felt very deep fake. you only need to look at Shel Silverstein to see how simple lovely books with great message for young and old can be written. this felt very instagrammy in the worst way.
BUT I was gifted this copy and it has lovely personal notes scribbled in the front so I'll cherish this book, if not it's story and characters.
Nice art. I can appreciate that the author wanted to really stylize the reader's experience with the font choice but it was a miss for me.
This is the sweetest, most lovely little book. The illustrations are fantastic and simple and full of so much life, and the sentiments are a tiny bit cliche, but in a way that feels warm and loving and charming. I can't say enough good things about this book
charming and beautiful
made me think a lot
the boy, the mole, the fox, and the horse will all be running and travelling and chatting (and eating cake) in my head forever, reminding me of the valuable lessons of self love and acceptance
Just so so sweet. Really lovely sentiments about friendship and life and loving yourself. Given as a gift to my son from his grandparents.
This is a picture book, with quick croquis type illustration - like the cover. The pictures are amazing. He has managed to capture the characters with a few ink strokes.I have been following this book growing into what it is through social media, and when the thanks the social media for the encouragement, I feel thanked <3 :-)There really isn't a story. The boy is on his way to home, and meets the other animals on the road, and then has philosophical discussions on the way. It's very much about love and friendship, but no solutions. It makes me feel very happy and remember all the people who love me and whom I love :-)And that makes me tear up. I love this book. I think it's to me what [b:The Little Prince 157993 The Little Prince Antoine de Saint-Exupéry https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1367545443l/157993.SY75.jpg 2180358] is to many others. I hated that book.BTW, here's a link to the music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGk9KxdbvFI
This book is like a hug between a front and back cover. I love picking it up every so often and just opening it on a random page. It's just very wholesome and touching and moving and.. ..well, loving. Absolutely adore this book.
This book is honestly such a gift. It teaches some of the best lessons in such a simple and easy way.
I kept thinking when I read this book, wow was it this easy to learn these things? Mackesy does such an amazing job breaking it down, and giving it a child like wonder as well. I wish I had this book back when I was younger!
I got this from a very good friend as a birthday present like the day after another friend had recommended it to me. The Universe was obviously conspiring to get me to read this phenomenal book.
“Nothing beats kindness,' said the horse. ‘It sits quietly beyond all things.”
Lovey little book about friendship and the importance of shifting ones outlook towards the world into a positive one. The drawings and the really pretty hand writing give this book a very unique charm. I will keep it handy and read it when I need it's positive messages again.
