Such a feel-good story, I wasn't planning on binge-reading this in one day, but that's exactly what happened!
I read this book with the voice of Aubrey Plaza in my head for the FMC and it was so perfect I could not stop laughing even when it was not funny
My first time reading a rom-com in years and I finished it in just three days! I was so hooked on the story, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and just had to see how the romance played out. It’s such a fun and feel-good read. The author’s notes say that’s exactly what she aimed for, and she nailed it. I love it every bit!
Jack y Hannah son adorables y sus dinámicas te dejan siempre con una sonrisa en la cara. Un libro ameno, entretenido y cute que te deja alguna que otra reflexion 💖
“It was fake. But it felt real.”
“I feel like I've been lost all my life until now—and somehow with you I'm just ... found.”
This was so fun. Hannah was insecure so she didn't really trust that Jack was being truthful. I mean they were fake dating so it makes sense but it felt REAL. I even felt it.
Very good!
Can't believe this is free to read on KU. So cute and easy to read. The last couple chapters were weird but that's okay
This was such an uplifting and fun book to read! It was a clean and sweet romantic comedy. The two main characters were so dynamic together. You don't always get that “chemistry” and connection through the pages when you read a romance, but this one was built up to perfection. Katherine Center is one of my favorite authors because she always delivers a perfectly woven romance. I really could've used this book last year, when I needed this positivity in my life, but I lost all my physical books and wasn't able to buy many new books then. However, blessings are meant to come into our lives right on time - I'm so overjoyed to have found The Bodyguard on Kindle Unlimited and for the audiobook to finally become available on Libby this month. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and encourage them to grab the audiobook as well because Patti Murin did a fabulous job!
Ah, the perfect wholesome book. Finally, a story that focuses on the emotional connection of the main characters. I hate romantic comedies because they all seem too similar - tall brooding guy, tiny sunshiney girl, immediate attraction, brooding guy is mean to everyone but sunshiney girl makes him want to be better. We’ve seen this countless times. This is a break from the tropes. Characters that behave like normal humans, a normal happy family, friends that mess up, a toxic ex. This story is kinda believable. And no spicy scenes!! Just a fun book which makes up for a light, feel-good read. Nothing too “rom-comy”, if you know what I mean.💖
Definitely going to be one of my top romance reads of 2024. GPT
“The Bodyguard” by Katherine Center is one of those books that just hits all the right notes, making you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The characters, especially Hannah and Jack Stapleton, are the kind you can't help but fall in love with. They're so well-developed, showing real growth and transformation throughout the story that's both believable and deeply satisfying. And let's talk about Jack for a sec—total crush material. He's got that depth and charm that's just irresistible, pulling you deeper into their story with every page. Katherine Center's writing is, as always, a joy to dive into—uplifting, engaging, and just plain refreshing, offering the perfect balance between lighthearted moments and more profound, emotional depths without getting too spicy, which I really appreciate.
But what struck me the most was how the book, while it wraps you in a delightful rom-com package, doesn't shy away from heavier themes like grief. It's impressive how Center weaves these threads into the narrative, making “The Bodyguard” so much more than your typical love story. Seeing Hannah and Jack not only fall for each other but also become essential parts of each other's healing and growth was just beautiful. The way Hannah becomes part of Jack's family and helps him face his guilt and grief, really adds layers to the story that you don't always find in what you are expecting to just be a rom-com. It's a heartfelt read that leaves you feeling hopeful, a bit lighter, and completely enamored with Hannah, Jack, and their journey together.
there were some really... interesting? Grammar choices in this book and it wasn't written the way I would've written it, but I appreciate it for what it is :) It was formulaic, but had some enjoyable pieces!!
Jack can call me stumps anytime <3
A very light hearted, funny, upbeat rom-com. I had a lot of fun listening to the audio book and really enjoyed the dynamic between Jack and Hannah. I liked how the author used a lot of established romance tropes (fake dating, 1 bed, forced proximity, etc.) but added wholesome twists to keep it a good time.
I wasn't a fan of the final conflict, felt underdeveloped and out of left field.
I wish I could find plane tickets for $76.00 for places I would like to go to instead paying over 1,000 dollars for airfare and also does Glenn know people are different when it comes to grief maybe Hannah didn't feel that close to her mother like I was to few people that have past on and what kind of name is Doghouse for a person but I found out it's only a nickname and I thought it was his real name but I give the guy credit for taking care for homeless puppies. And also I really didn't care for Glenn for going in on Hannah all the time especially the way she looked and making fun of her for it that I'm sure of that Hannah didn't need to hear she wasn't good enough or how she dresses he should of be glad that she wasn't sleeping around the office like Robby was or Bobby as Jack would call him and at least she there to work and if I was her I would of said that she quit for Glenn being an asshole towards her. I have to say that I really like Jack Stapleton he was pretty funny thru out the hole book but in one chapter when I thought he was being a jerk to Hannah but there was the stalkers ex-husband who had him in a situation and he was making fun of her how she was afraid of cows. I didn't want this book to end cause I was loving Jack and Hannah they both had me laughing thru out the story and I am so giving this books and story 5 stars but the only one I didn't like was Hank Jack's brother for telling Jack to leave the hospital after their mother passed out they have to get along for the mother's sake and I think the father should have stepped in to them to stop their fighting. All because of the stupid stalker the stalker thing had to come to an end for Jack and Hannah and Jack's family Connie did love Hannah if she wanted them to get married and sure enough they did ended up being together.
I'm not really into romance books. But this one wasn't absolutely horrible.
3.75
this was cute, funny and pretty entertaining. i liked the characters and the relationship enough but i wasn't obsessed with them. it's probably more of a 3 star book to me but i gave bonus points for taking me out of a month long reading slump
This was fun but mostly because I was laughing at the book and not with it.
A lot in this is superficial, juvenile, awkward and so freaking cringe it hurts.
The writing is nothing to write home about and the story is barely put together. The couple got the chemistry of best friends that would say ewwww at the possibility of kissing. I had so many gripes about the way the plot was developed and how the same things could have been accomplished in different ways. By the end I just wanted it over so I started skimming a little bit, not even that saved the book for me.
Nonetheless, it was a good experience for me because I and my friends discussed it and made fun of some stuff and went off the rails with theories and pictures and kindness, and that is the only reason this is getting upgraded.
I loved this! I thought Hannah's job was unique and interesting, and her coworkers were funny side characters.
Hannah and Jack's relationship was so cute. They had great banter, and they were such a good fit together. Jack is charming and sweet. I liked how we got to see Jack just living in his everyday life even though he's a celebrity in this world, and it was a neat fictional representation of how people idolize celebrities but they really are just normal people. He was very real and down-to-earth.
This was a very fun rom-com that also had a deeper plot line around Jack's family and their relationships with each other because of events from their past. A good balance between the two.
It's also a clean romance and a slower burn which are two things I love in romance books.
I was looking for a quick, easy, purely entertaining read and that's what I got with “[b:The Bodyguard 58724801 The Bodyguard Katherine Center https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1637059607l/58724801.SY75.jpg 92420729]” by [a:Katherine Center 409113 Katherine Center https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1507831194p2/409113.jpg] - mostly.Pretty much for the entire first quarter of the novel, Hannah is supposed to be a tough, no-nonsense, bristly and business-like woman who is used to being in control. In fact, I read her more as a wooden, cliched character who seemed to have few redeeming qualities: She's not tough but basically always on the run from herself and her emotions. She's not bristly and business-like but acts rashly and impulsively...»And that's when, despite everything I had just decided about how getting myself to London would be the answer to all my problems, I said, “You know what? I quit.”«... while at the same time allows her boss to just walk over her...»I'm not sure anybody even heard me—except for Glenn, who brushed that declaration off with a glance, like I was an annoying insect. “You're never quitting. Like I already said.”«Even when meeting Jack, she's behaving like a bodyguard from kindergarten:»And that was before he shocked the hell out of me by opening the door.Shirtless.Just opened up the front door. To a total stranger. Utterly naked from the waist up. What kind of a power move was that?“Jesus Christ!” I said, spinning around and covering my eyes. “Put some clothes on!”«At this point, I pretty much expected to DNF this book and move on. I couldn't help but like Jack, though, and the way he carefully and sensitively disarmed Hannah with kindness and charm - and the slow, hesitant way she started to respond to it.Hannah starts off as a closed-off and guarded person, but she slowly starts to open up to Jack and his family. She becomes more vulnerable and more trusting, and she eventually learns to let herself love and be loved. To me, Hannah's character development is one of the strengths of the book.Hannah's journey to self-discovery, the beginning of Jack's healing process and the ways they helped each other basically is what made me finish this novel in one long evening. Despite its decidedly mediocre beginning, “The Bodyguard” turned into a funny, emotional, heartwarming, and ultimately uplifting story about love, loss, and finding your way back to yourself. What a cute book! I had been in a book funk after some bad ones, and this totally won my heart. Such a cute rom-com, with no spicey scenes, just a cute, fun story. I'd recommend it as a quick, easy read to warm your heart.
so fun! loved the main character - such a enjoyable job to read about. wasn't a huge fan of wrapping everything up in the epilogue
