I was really intrigued reading the blurb for the story, and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Unrivalled in originality, this fantasy world-building delivers a fascinating smorgasbord of colourful characters and gripping adventures in the skies - pirates, flying galleons, women who aren't content to quietly follow family expectations, secrets, prophets and a mysterious vial - all woven into a truly exciting story with plenty of twists and turns. I liked not only the world building, but also the presentation of the characters - their driving force and motivation not fitting into the mold of the times they live in. Mirella the runaway bride, Gammy the pirate queen, Alura the pirate captain, Kristen and the dangerous atmosphere around him, Rinn an example of the harsh and startlingly different world of the pirates who spend more time sailing than living off the land, are all multi-faceted and interesting to read. The best part, though? The unpredictability - as I read this unusual fantasy, there was always something new and unexpected waiting for me at the next crossroad.
