Summers at the beach are supposed to be filled with adventurous moments, lazy days, and maybe a little romance. What they are not supposed to be is terrorizing, heart-shattering and life-changing in the worst way, as it was for 15 year-old Diana...
After a devasting summer, Diana collapses. She barely manages to pass high school and eventually drops out of college. Her life has become a “just get through this day” chore. Will she ever be able to heal? Find love? Or be happy again?
If you're looking for a beach read, with light-hearted moments and fun in the sand, this isn't the book for you. Don't discount it though, because this has much more to it than one may think...it's definitely one that will hit the heart and would make a great book club read.
Jennifer Weiner does #MeToo. Better plotting than last year's [b:Big Summer 52755548 Big Summer Jennifer Weiner https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1585287049l/52755548.SY75.jpg 73726844], with lots to ponder about levels of guilt, accountability, and justice. Doesn't necessarily bring anything new to the table, but Weiner knows how to tell a good story and the pages fly by quickly. It's easy to identify the bad men and the good ones, but there are a few that fall in between who are the most interesting, and should engender the most impassioned book club discussions.
