1574 The city of Leyden is in despair. Its surrounding wall is now known to trap rather than protect the inhabitants as the siege on their land becomes unbearable. It has been two months since the start of the siege, and there is no longer enough food, but no one has given in...yet. Lyra is one of the few residents of this city who sees things for what they are. After a chase through trauma, and an unknown man ends her ordinary life forever, Lyra finds herself in a position where she is now the targeted victim of the city. Nadeje, a young soldier who becomes her protector and imprisoner, ends up being a person of honor and strange and unfamiliar thoughts, that, even as Lyra struggles, she can't seem to help how much he intrigues her. Lyra and Nadeje are facing two sides of conflict; the siege, and a world where the unusual thoughts are something to be punished for. Despite this, the two find themselves locked in a bond where they may never find a key. Both have fallen for the other, and both know the consequences of this could afflict Leyden forever.
