Dette er nok min absolutte favoritttype bøker, i samme kategori som Peter Mathiesens African Silences og Edward Gargans A River's Tale: A year on the Mekong. Det de har til felles er en kontakt med naturen som ser ut til å gi dem uendelig med tid til å skrive det de vil skrive - det haster ikke med å komme videre, selve lesingen er å være i det øyeblikket som beskrives - ingen slutt å dras mot, og det gjør svært godt.
Tematisk er de bøkene forskjellige, Gargan beskriver et års reise langs Mekong-elven, Peter Mathiessen skriver om sakte tilstedeværelse i afrikanske landskaper, Dillard skriver korte essays og historier uten større poenger enn kontakt med livet. Anbefales sterkt!

Some stunning stuff in here. “Total Eclipse” in particular winded me.

It's a collection of unrelated essays. There are some that are great, and some that aren't. The great ones far outweigh the others though, so... FOUR STARS!
