Sweetshop of Dreams: A Novel with Recipes #1

Jenny Colgan is like Jill Mansell with a sharper sense of humor. I loved Rosie's spirited interactions with everyone in the village as she gradually finds her place there, and the excerpts from Great Aunt Lillian's self-published book about various forms of candy are hilarious. But the book loses a big fat star for a complete arse of a “hero” who snarls a lot, treats Rosie like crap (perhaps even worse than the boyfriend who takes her for granted while remaining overly dependent on his mummy), and makes an underwhelming apologetic gesture at the end. I understand there is a sequel to this book; I'd be interested to read it and see if the hero continues to be a jerk or if he is at least somewhat redeemable.
