As with the other books in this series, I had a great time reading this. I laughed, I shook my head at Charlie's antics, and sympathized with everyone around her. My heart soared at the young love between Amber and Quentin, and other revelations had my groaning in sadness. It is an emotional ride. And yet, not my favorite book of the series.
Truly, this book feels like a wrap up of this series, getting all the loose ends together and answers given, in order to set up for Beep's story. YES, there has been confirmation that we will be getting Beep's series!! I for one am totally happy, because I need more Osh in my life.
Anyhow, because of this, there are quite a few revelations and changes to characters. We also are kind of told what all the side character's roles will be – scholar, protector, etc. It is one part emotionally painful, because we see this from Charley's perspective and it just hurts to see she won't be there while reassuring because hey Beep will have some great people on her side, but at the same time adds to this book feeling more like a set up for the next series.
The ending of this and the resolutions to conflicts felt so... easy? Yes, there are some struggles, but for the most part everything felt anticlimatic and makes me wonder why Charley and Reyes can't be the ones to fight Beep's war for her. –I might have forgotten the reason from earlier books.
At the same time, I think it is a good send off for our characters and I'm not sure I'd have the ending be any other way. I look forward to Beep's story!! I highly recommend this series to anyone who like PNR.
