Such Small Hands

Such a strange and stirring book. There's a 2006 video game called Rule Of Rose that (for me) lives in the same universe as this. Both stories contain an outpouring of complex emotions from little girls who feel so far removed from everyone and everything. As a result, you end up marooned on an island with these girls and go back and forth between despair and tenderness for the experience.

This novella was weirdly sexual given the subject matter. It lacked direction, leaving me waiting for something interesting to happen, only for it to end abruptly. The afterword helped me make sense of what I had read, but overall, I wouldn't recommend it.

Is it sad? Yes. Is it weird? Yes. But I was lost along the way, and not in a good way either. I felt bad for the Marina in the beginning and I guess she got her revenge but it was set up in such a weird way.The book is short enough to finish in a day but I wasn't pulled to keep reading and getting through with it seemed like a hassle.
