Opal is definitely a different type of main character, compared to Yelena, which is good for me, because I was quite tired of the “Yelena is always right” mindset. Opal still wants to help everyone, but she is more timid and unsure of herself.
For some reason, I thought the love interest was going to go a completely different way and I'm glad it did. Although the slight love triangle that was going on was... meh. Not terrible though since I'd say it almost wasn't a triangle...
Anyhow, I like how we are learning more about magic and how different it is for people and seeing more of the world. Definitely liked this book more than Fire Study.
Looking forward to the next book!
