I have never really read anything that would qualify as chick-lit, unless you classify Nancy Drew as chick-lit. I can only hope that this book doesn't represent the whole genre; regardless, I will stay away from anything in this genre for quite awhile. The plot was silly and far-fetched, the characters were dismal and predictable, and the writing itself was mediocre at best.

Here are some of the major issues I saw:

1. How on Earth does Rachel even like Darcy? She is a shallow shell of a friend that I can't believe Rachel would bother keeping in touch with.2. There are 2 Rachels here, one who is constantly comparing herself to the perceived perfection of Darcy, and one who goes to the baby shower entirely too full of herself and her awesome career as an attorney. These 2 Rachels hardly seem to be part of one personality.3. The end was such a disappointment that it surprised me based on that alone. Dexter is a jerk, obviously. And it is not evidence of a strong woman that Rachel waited around for him to come begging for her. Also, Darcy pregnant with What's-His-Name's baby??? Are you kidding me???4. There was a section of the sequel to this book at the end of my Kindle edition. I could not tell a single difference in the tone of narrative voice between this book, narrated by Rachel, and the sequel, narrated by Darcy. They have the same voice, the same tone, just a different story to tell. And it's not a story that I want to hear.

I am sad to admit this is probably the longest review I've ever written on GR. I guess I complain louder and more often than I compliment, or perhaps it was just too easy to find so many disagreeable aspects of this book.
