4.8 - very interesting read...Faith endured so much but is such an inspiration !
I heard this described as “Educated” on crack. And that's kind of accurate. I wasn't as emotionally invested in what was happening to the author as I wanted to be. And because she wrote from her perspective as a child thinking everything was okay and nothing was weird, I started thinking that way too, and stuff that is normally very shocking became less impactful in the story...
It's definitely interesting, but I don't think the writing is amazing and therefore i just wasn't as drawn-in/invested or cared as much as I wanted to.
This book's copy compares it to Educated which I think is very valid because, like Educated, I feel like this is a book where the sheer story is very compelling and the author's struggle is admirable, while the quality of the writing is like, fine. If you're into cult shit I'd recommend it, but it's not like, for example [b:The Glass Castle 7445 The Glass Castle Jeannette Walls https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1523542886l/7445.SY75.jpg 2944133] where the story was bonkers AND the writing was gorgeous.
