I love this book because apart from being a wonderful romance it depicts very realistically the union between two people of different social extraction & it doesn't gloss over the real impediments in such a union and yet we see and believe first the physical attraction and later the blossoming of a true and lasting love. Sigh!

It was so good!! I enjoyed it!
Anabelle was an interesting character as was Simon. Their banter and relationship was very good, I couldn't stop laughing when they were arguing and bantering.
I liked the story too. I can't wait to read about Lillian and Westcliff too! And poor Evie, it gets better for her but it's hard to read about her living with her horrible family for now.
I loved how obsessed Simon was with Anabelle. From the first moment he saw her, he was so feral for her, it was amazing. And the lady doth protest too much, methinks, she was ALWAYS complaining but it was clear she was very intrigued by him as well. I loved how much Simon cared for Anabelle though, when she was sick, when he taught her to play chess, and bought her shoes... He was amazing. I loved it.
while annabelle was playing ‘hard to get,' i was toying with the idea that i might never finish this book...
3/5 - Decent historical romance but not best I have ever read, I've heard other books in the series are much better (especially Devil in Winter) so will be reading rest!
Loved this book! Loved Simon and all his pining for Annabelle. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Brisk and sexy! I have stuff to say about the series thus far that I'll add to the review of Wallflowers #2 I'm about to write, but this book has its specific charms. Probably at the top of the list is that because it's the start of the quartet, it's got the most about the development of the female friendships, which I like. There's an entrapment subplot that doesn't feel totally consistent with the heroine Annabelle's character, but then again, she looks with pretty clear eyes at the reality of being a English woman in her social class at this point in history. Also, as my goodreads makes clear, I've been reading lots of romance, and Kleypas writes the best sex scenes of any I've read. Carry on!
I'd have given this book an extra star if I could actually stand Annabelle for most of the book. I found her extremely annoying and pretty much wanted to smack her most of the time but I liked Simon a lot and some of the other characters were ok.
I think I was expecting a bit more about the whole plot and everything... but was a really ok book.
Maybe I was comparing too much with the Hathaways storyline, and was quit the same but, somehow, less.
But hopefully it will achieve its full amazement with Lillian (whose strong spirit and sharp tongue probably will make the next book shine).
Loved the female friendships in this book! I felt like this one went on a bit too long - I understand why, to some extent, but the whole thing with Annabelle's mom stabbing the dude was pretty out of left field and a pretty extreme way to tie up that plot loose end. Other than that, I really enjoyed this one. The chemistry was definitely believable and I liked that the male lead wasn't the usual lord or duke or whatever. Definitely going to read the rest of this series!
