Run Rose Run

I feel like I'm in a reading slump. I was very excited for this book because I love Dolly, Tennessee, and thrillers but I just could not get into it. I don't know if it was the writing style, or that it was a slow start but I'm disappointed that this wasn't the hit I imagined it would be. 

I just couldn't get into the story. I tried but I found myself not wanting to read 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jos haluaa kevyttä viihdettä pienellä jännityksen elementillä, tässä on juuri sopiva kirja siihen. Lyhyet luvut innostivat jatkamaan tarinassa eteenpäin. Hahmot, vaikkakin erittäin kliseisiä kaikki, olivat hauskoja ja heidän tarinoitaan oli mukava seurata.

Koska tarina pyöri todella paljon musiikin ja sen bisneksen ympärillä, oli hauska, että kirjan loppuun oltiin lisätty siinä esiintyneet laulut erikseen omaan osioon.

Enjoyable! I love country music so wanted to read this when I saw it in the supermarket, and found the audio on Borrowboax. 

It definitely felt like Dolly Parton had a big part in the writing as not much of a mysterious thriller like other Patterson ones! The character she voiced felt just like her in real life, though. The other actors were good too. The plot was easy to guess from the start so nothing there, and the end was a bit lacking in tension. But, a nice easy read! And fun to have a full cast involved on the audiobook.

The writing was very cheesy, but it was an entertaining and easy read.

Great book! I listened to it, instead of reading, and Dolly read the part for one of the characters. Had my attention from “go”, and I listened to the whole book in a day. Well developed characters and a good story line. I haven't read a James Patterson novel in many years, but they're still as engaging and enjoyable as ever. I'm glad for this one including Dolly to suck me back in.

It was okay. Not what I expected. I knew it would have a movie element. But, the characters did not develop to me. The singing was weird and Dolly I love you but on the audio book she sounded like she has some dip in. Do not get me wrong it's worth reading. With the hype I expected more.

Parents, don't let your kid's dreams of stardom carry them away to Nashville without reading this book first. Having previously lived in Nashville for fifteen years, I found a familiar tone within its pages. Frankly, it is one I miss dearly as there's no place like Nashville. Everyone you know or meet wants to be a singer/songwriter, knows one, lives with one, works for one, or has managed to become one of the few who earn their living at it. It's a tight-knit, warm and welcoming, albeit suspicious of strangers looking to strike it rich kind of community. Rose's experiences in this story reflect reality due to Dolly's strength as a storyteller and no doubt her personal experience of many years of paying dues before breaking into the business. I don't know her, don't judge me, nor am I a country music fan. But I purchased this book because I appreciate the universal story of working hard to earn what you get and not quitting until you get it. Both Dolly and James have this story in common. (I recently read James' book “James Patterson: The Stories of My Life.” It's excellent.)

I started this book yesterday and finished it today because I couldn't put it down. That said, I've rated it four stars because while it reflects everything that Patterson fans love about his writing style, in a few spots I did find myself ahead of the details, and not really needing some of those lines in order to arrive where they were leading. About four chapters in I found the solid footing of the story, and only a couple of times after the midpoint I experienced a few too many details that I didn't feel like I would miss if I skipped. I heartily recommend this book whether you appreciate country music or not.

I'm starting to get into audiobooks! I listened to two audiobooks in September, and the second one was Run Rose Run. Normally, this book is not what I'd pick. However, I saw a review of the audiobook in BookPage magazine that was glowing because of the full cast that recorded it, including Dolly Parton herself.

So, I decided to give it a try, and unfortunately it was just “meh”. The full cast part was cool, but the actual story...I thought there would be more to the suspense/thriller aspect, but it wasn't quite as thrilling as I hoped. The story and characters were a little bit flat, too. It was just okay.

It was an interesting story! I'm a huge fan of singing competitions so I liked the storyline. I wish she had of come clean about her past sooner but at least it all worked out in the end.

It's a page-turner.

This was a really enjoyable audiobook. I hope Dolly and James Patterson team up for another book!

The narration on the audible version was well-done.
