Eleven-year-old Ripley Plimpt, who has discovered that monsters are real, rescues a tiny bat that was impaled on a thorn bush, not realizing that the bat was actually a vampire, and before long monsters from around the world show up on his doorstep proclaiming he is Rip, M.D.
