2025 Reading Challenge ~ [6/12]
Probably the most purely entertaining book I have read in a very long time, if not in my entire life. Rejection is intense, unpleasant, captivating and memorable.
The book presents a collection of subtly interconnected stories in which the characters, who are cartoonishly real, experience deeply emotional transformations that change them forever.
The premise itself is interesting, but the real value lies in the execution. Tulathimutte writes prose adapted to the 21st century and the digital age with precision, authority and, above all, authenticity. Something so difficult to find. Although it is true that the book is not for everyone (and especially not for those sensitive to controversial content related to sexuality and/or pornography), I must say that it is refreshing to read someone who dares go beyond political correctness.
The four, rather than five, stars have to do with the end of the book. The sixteen metaphors in the penultimate text and the experimental breaking of the fourth wall in the final piece seemed unnecessary and lacking the weight of the rest of the stories. Other than that, an excellent work.
