This series reads a lot differently in 2020 than it did in 2019. I wasn't terribly charitable in my review of the first book, [b:Pros & Cons of Vengeance 41570896 Pros & Cons of Vengeance (Pros & Cons #1) A.E. Wasp https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1535650505l/41570896.SY75.jpg 64877218], claiming that the snarky banter and sex totally overshadowed the alleged suspense plot, and that the Insta-Love between the two MCs was not believable. Well, here it is, the waning days of the the worst year in recent history, and while I still don't think this series is going to make my top ten list, it is just the kind of silly fun that I needed to take my mind off stress and anxiety.Sure, using a fake boyfriend strategy to determine if a luxury resort is abusing its staff who have “guest worker” visa status doesn't really stand up to close examination; it's mostly an opportunity for the guys to take on various disguises and snark at each other over their communication links. And despite a little bit of initial mistrust between this book's MCs, Danny and Wesley, they fall victim to the Insta-Love bug pretty quickly. But frankly I could use a relationship without too much angst these days, and a little banter goes a long way when you're stuck inside without much else to entertain you. Plus although I wish the resort's staff had been given a chance to show any personality other than “victim,” Wasp does highlight a genuine immigration scandal that traps thousands of individuals in a system that has been compared to slavery. How many romance novels address human rights in between blow jobs? The bottom line is, I'm down for some dumb fun now much more than I was a year ago.
