Oh man the intensity is sure increasing here. I will admit to waiting a LONG time between reading volumes, but I was able to walk in and remember things easily thanks to the writing.
Also, does the artwork just continue to be amazing or what? I swear some of these double-page spreads, I'd love to have on my walls.
Hopefully I'll get around to the next volume much quicker than I did this one.
Here we are full of history, Trellis's history mostly, but bits of Max's as well although there is still much mystery surrounding him as well.
The war is beginning and the Guardian Council is quite outnumbered. Emily is getting stronger though and she is done waiting for answers. She's a great character. And the ending, although not the end, was great. I only wish I had started reading this when the series was complete so I didn't have to wait to find out what happens next!
I'm still very much enjoying this series, and even better, so are my students. I love the artwork, especially the sweeping double page spreads. The monsters are terrifying, the story is moving along at a good paced, and I love the dynamic between Emily and the unfortunately named Trellis. It's great to see a hero/anti-hero dynamic without romantic tones involved.
The only thing really annoying me is the mom. I can't honestly see how she'd let her children run off into this after the trauma in her life. She's kind of a hindrance on the plot. I wish she'd either join the cast as an Action Mom or at least stop getting kidnapped.
I love everything about this series except the long wait for the next installment.
