I walked away from this just feeling neutral about the whole thing, the book didn't have an impact of me at all. It's not bad, but it's not great either. The characters are just meh and the action scenes were good but not great.
I think this a book for people who really love zombies or have a weird obsession for female ninjas.
I wrote about this book a little more in my Wrap Up:

This book was just SO very funny! I seriously can't wait to read the new one!!
When did I fall in love with this book? I WAS IN THE MIDDLE BEFORE I KNEW I BEGAN + zombies
I wanted to enjoy this book, I really did. I was excited about reading this book. But it just didn't work for me. I liked some scenes, and the additional zombies didn't ruin the story. The problem was that the dialogue and new characters felt kinda shallow.
There's a Swedish word “studentikos” - typical for high-school/college students. Usually immature and stupid. The author just couldn't stop saying “balls, hurhurhur”. It was stupid already the first time.
So, if you like Jane Austen, don't read this. If you thought Pride and Prejudice was a bit stupid and found the balls amusing, read it.
This is such a good re-telling of Pride and Prejudice! I love it just as much as I love the original!
I don't know that I would read the others in the series, but I found this a charming way to revisit a much-loved book.
I kept thinking that it wasn't original enough to keep me interested in a story I know so well. It sounds silly, I know, it has zombies in it! But I just couldn't find it in me to keep reading. I first started in October and only got to finish it now (late March) because I purposely only took this one book on a trip with me, so I would be forced to finally be done with it. There was nothing in it to make me pick it up for nearly six months! I think it's a good idea for a movie, not so much for a novel.
Plus I'm not a huge fan of how some of the characters were altered, especially Mr. Bennet (an adulterer and his daughters knew about it AND they were ok with it because everybody hated Mrs. Bennet, apparently) and Lizzie in the last chapter (that speech about Darcy falling in love with her because she was so unlike other silly and shallow women, seriously?).
All in all, not the best fanfiction I've read, but not the worst either.
I give this two stars simply because some parts made me laugh. Overall it was difficult to understand, then again I couldn't understand the original Pride and Prejudice either. Zombie scenes were just too random and meaningless.
While amusing, Grahme-Smith was only able to find a handful of zombie/(ninja?) scenarios and terms to regurgitate throughout the book.
Was in love when I heard the concept of the book, namely remixing work where the copyright had expired. Note that I would not have approached such a combined unless I was either not ever intending to read the book or was already familiar with its contents. Seeing the movie would not have been justworthy enough, but I had listened to the audiobook of Pride and Prejudice.
The execution, itself, was good in many respects. However, it only add these small, dead elements on top of the story. It would have been more thorough to have added an additional plot that related specifically to the zombie cause. Since this was not included, the book is not exactly worth the read. I feel like I have wasted my time reading an abridged version of a book and cannot really say I read Pride and Prejudice at all.
Will definitely read some of the other Grahame-Smith books though. Just have to do a bit more background research beforehand.
I couldn't put this stupid book down! What a hoot. The zombie mayhem really added to Austen's commentary on high society (sorry, Jane....) I can think of a few places today where zombie hijinks could only help!
The discussion notes at the back of the book were another great source of entertainment. Now I have to get some friends to read the book so that we can discussion these points.
This book was a bit different. It is your classical Jane Austen read but changed a bit. The changes are sometimes funny, sometimes cute. I really did enjoy it. It is a strange read and helps to know something of the original but the basics are the same as the original book.
This was an interesting read. I liked it. I don't think I would read it again, parts of it were just grusome and crude which pulled me right out of the whole austin genre but overall I enjoyed seeing the world of austin in a very different light.
It is Pride and Prejudice with zombies. I was more interested in thinking about how much work it was for the author to write, then the story. If you read and or liked the original, you may not like this vision. I recommend the book World War Z. Now that's a Zombie book.
I had such high hopes, but not even the promise of “ultraviolent zombie action” was able to hold my attention through a Jane Austin novel. I tried. Now on to “World War Z”!
I have to start out by telling you, I'm not the biggest Jane Austen fan. I'm probably not even the smallest Austen fan. I don't get the appeal.
But....
...Add zombies and I'm a fan for life. I quite literally plowed through this book. The “unmentionables” (AKA “Satan's Army”) have taken over England and have saved Pride and Prejudice.
