Pirate Stew

I will be the first to admit that I am not the target market for this - it is a children's book and I am neither a child nor do I have children of my own. I am however a fan of Neil Gaiman so I picked it up on a whim to see what his children's literature is like. This is a fun, child friendly story written in rhyme about being babysat by pirates. I have young nieces who I can see would love this story. The illustrations are fun too. My main issue with it is whilst the rhyming is fun, the rhythm of the rhyme doesn't necessarily run off the tongue especially well. This could well just be me though. Anyway, once I get a chance to travel and see the rest of my family again (damn Covid) I will have to see what my nieces make of this. I am sure they will find me getting tangled up in the rhyme funny too so maybe that is plus actually...

Mum and Dad are off for a night out, and who is left to babysit the kids? Pirates!

The pirates have promised to feed the kids. But they don't have a lot of experience in the kitchen, it seems....

It doesn't get more fun than this. Vivid riot of illustrations. A jumble of rhyme-y text. Two kids who are ultimately even more sensible than their parents, and yet manage to get swept up in a bit of adventure for the evening.

You can be a pirate too!”
