I liked the general premise of this collection–Tommy and Tuppence running a detective agency. I found the references to old detective novels confusing, mostly because I am not familiar with them and some have not remained popular over time. However, I like the duo and their spunk is refreshing.
Not-so-engaging and perhaps confusing stories of Tommy and Tuppence. My main problem with this book is that I think Christie's detailed narrative does not suit a short story format, which makes the reader clueless and doesn't have enough time to enjoy the story. In addition, I couldn't understand most of the references the author was making. Perhaps this book is reserved for only loyal fans who read all of Christie's books.
I hadn't read this one before! I thought I have read all of Agatha, but there's still surprises :-)
Nice
I like this. It's a collection of short stories of Tommy and Tuppence's adventures as private detectives, fitted in a frame story. Very well done. It's your usual Agatha quality, meaning, it's very easy to read, entertaining, intriguing, not too hard, not too easy. Of course, there's a lot of things that will come up in Agatha Christie's other stories and books, but nothing disturbing - to me, at least.
A Tommy and Tuppence book with charming short stories. I don't think that the Tommy and Tuppence books are the best Agatha Christie has written, but it is fun. Some of the stories in this book have a Wodehousian touch to it. Some of them are witty but all of the stories are far fetched.
Provides a few hours of light reading and that's ok.
3.5/5 - Light hearted and fun short story collection, Tommy and Tuppence are always a delight on the page. Does this collection of short stories have some of Agatha Christie's most intricate plot lines? No. Are they a cozy read? Yes!
It was solidly okay. I'm not one for short stories, and this one was a series of cases (short stories) that worked within a framework of a larger case/story arc. The attempt at something a little different in terms of a detective novel is respectable, but it didn't light my fire.
It is all very well to want things to happen-they might not be pleasant things.
“If you must be Sherlock Holmes,” she observed, “I'll get you a nice little syringe and a bottle labelled Cocaine, but for God's sake leave that violin alone.”
