This book is a historical fiction piece that starts is the late 1800s with.thw building of the Eiffel Tower through WWII. There are also short stories interspersed throughout with members of the same family tree. It truly is a story of the City of Paris. If you have ever been there you could imagine the characters and where they were.
The stories very from the Gentry down to a prostitutes and people just trying to live their lives or wanting to change Paris itself. As Paris grows so do the issues involved with that growth.
If you enjoy historical fiction as told through normal everyday people or the City of Paris you will enjoy this book.
But be warned this book is 800 pages. It does take time a dedication to finish the book. At points it can be slow.
