Out There Screaming

Great short stories, will probably finish in the future but got out of the mood for horror

Multi-author anthologies are always going to be a mixed bag, but this one hits more than it misses. There's some really strong stories here, especially the ones by Lesley Nneka Arimah, Nnedi Okarofor, Nalo Hopkinson and LD Lewis. Pretty much essential for anyone interested in modern horror.

As with Never Whistle, there are some horribly terrifying stories here. Terrifying because they are too realistic.

I enjoyed the writing of all of these stories. I don’t know that they all landed the horror elements but at the very least they had interesting plots. Some of the standouts were “Dark Home”, by Nnedi Okorafor, “Your Happy Place” by Terence Taylor, and “Hide & Seek” by P. Djèlí Clark.

I always enjoy a good horror story. Out There Screaming is perfect for reading in the dark early hours, sipping on a cup of coffee. The writing is good and the variety of stories is great. Perfect for any horror enthusiast.

I have only ever DNF'd one book, and this one came incredibly close to being the second.

A couple of the stories in here are good, but most are just incredibly dull or ridiculous (but not in a good way).

This isn't that long of a book but it took me ages to get through as it was so boring and felt slow paced even though the stories are all short.

This took me three weeks to get through (dipping in and out) when I read IT by Stephen King in 5 days (which is a 1200 page book!)

The good stories are also all put together, so there were large sections of the book that were just boring story after boring story.

I would also not classify this as a horror book, not a single one of these stories was actually scary in any way.

Favorites: the other one by Violet Allen, pressure by Ezra Daniels, Dark home by nnedi okorafor, flicker by L.D.Lewis, hide & seek by p.djeli clark

The stories are very hit or miss. My standout stories were Lasiren, The Rider, The Aesthete, and Dark Home. Even if there were stories I enjoyed, I struggled to get through this book; I found myself not looking forward to reading it. A testament to that is that between the date I started reading this and the time I finished it I started 17!!! other books. I am not usually a fan of horror, so this is likely just not the genre for me. This is going to be loved by many other people. But those people aren't me.
