Ok..I tried reading it. But I got confuzzled. I might try reading it in another Year.

I wasn't very impressed with this one when I originally read it. A few weeks ago I found a bunch of this series as temporarily included on audible, so I dug it out to give another chance.

There are some interesting threads, but the characters are pretty dull. Cal is the most annoying teenage brat.

Can't recall many details, just boring. It's almost a bearable story, with bearable characters. But nothing interesting happens.

I ended up not liking this book, which is a shame because there is a decent amount here to like.

There is amazing world-building and characters here (besides Cal). There are complicated characters and situations and I really wanted to know more about the monsters around and how everything fits together.
The unfortunate thing is the story is about and told by Cal. Cal is a woe-is-me 17 year old who is living in a 19 year old's body. So... physically he is 19, but emotionally he is still 17. Thinking about him like that makes him easy to read about, but WOW is he lazy and incompetent. He complains about not being as good as his older brother (Niko who is amazing), but then explains he is too lazy to actually study or practice fighting. In this sense, Cal is a very realistic kid, but he is running for his life! You'd think he'd learn to be better...

Yet, why am I considering reading the sequel? Niko. Wonderful amazing Niko, who is Cal's older brother and just... amazing. I'm seriously halfway in love with Niko. I'd read his book is a heartbeat. Also, Robin is a wonderful deep character... well, all the characters but Cal make me want to read more of this series...

Nothing happened. This book was horrible. The characters just bullshit around half the time when they are supposedly on the run for Cal's life. What the fuck are you doing staying in town and asking the local supernatural questions when you're running from supernaturals? Are you asking to be caught? Not touching this author again.

Niko and Cal Leandros, brothers on the run, actually it's always Niko who's running for the sake of Cal, well the book might not be one of the best, I've read so far, what with Cal's wisecracking and all these watching over your shoulder stuff.....anyway the good??? Ummmmmm hard to say, at least it left a dent on the couch/bed i was sitting/lying/whatever.....constant reminiscing about their past.....the bad???? Constant reminiscing, hey I think I'm starting to think like Cal.......monster/human......oh well here's to you other folks.....good luck in reading this one!!!!

Now where is Niko??? Oh sorry, I don't have a brother named Niko, I'm not even an american!!!![no disrespect to all you guys!!!]

yeah . a 5 star book. i have read few this year. a great twist on the fae. shiver. a gr8 botherly lovew and funny bromance

gr8 start of a series

Post Dresden, the expectations from this genre are mighty high. While Rob could not match Jim Butcher in character depth or plot, she does make a very good fist of the relationships between her characters. Of course the highpoint of this book is the way the relationship between the brothers is handled. Humor is subtle but not genuinely funny. Rob has done enough to ensure I read the next book in the series which I think is in itself a huge achievement. I see this developing more like Mark Del Franco's Connor Grey series which personally I thought was quite good. Like I said, pre-Dresden I might have scored it a 4.5 but now I must limit myself to 3.5. Lets see what lies ahead.

Not bad for a first novel (I think it is one?), but I'm not really interested in re-reading it. It is an interesting concept, and a different take on several concepts than most of what I've read in the urban fantasy genre. I'll probably give Thurman a second or third chance.
