This 467-page new edition maintains its strong focus on both San Francisco and the entire region, especially Silicon Valley. Of the 200 pages devoted exclusively to discussion of neighborhoods and communities, 50% describe San Francisco neighborhoods and North Bay communities, while 50% focus on the East Bay, Peninsula, and South Bay towns.

The neighborhood background data is incredibly helpful. There's so much you can learn from just a few paragraphs that you'd otherwise miss if you just look at a map. It did help me find focus areas when searching for an apartment.
There is a mix of “antiquated” information in the book. Who needs a list of banks anymore?
