M'kay so this series is not at all a typical paranormal romance series. It has elements that are very much in-genre, many of which it treats with a tongue firmly in the cheek, and others that are likely to get in the way for someone looking for the kind of series that you can jump in and out of, skip books, or that really focuses deeply on each couple to the exclusion of almost everything else.
It is very fast-paced, has a strong series arc that drives most of the action, separate couple arcs for each book, and wraps up city-wide story arcs every 5 books. Each book is filled with twists and revelations and surprises for the characters - of the kind that even when there is a predictable moment, it is either utterly satifsying or quite surprising.
However... what I love most so far, is how the very first couple continues to evolve as individuals, as a couple, and in terms of their ever-expanding found-family. The series arc is very much centered on the mysteries in the circumstances surrounding their mating. In fact, I almost (almost) wish the author would change gears and not introduce a new couple every book. The new couple's romance bits are getting in the way of the bigger plot line at this point, and yet... that is core to the genre and why I read so much within it. Also, the author is quite skilled at introducing loveable characters who have a really good reason for being there that moves the plot forward.
