my husband by maud ventura is a fascinating novel that dives into the intricate dynamics of a marriage, exploring obsessive love and psychological complexities. the story follows a woman who meticulously plans every interaction with her husband, constantly testing his affection.
i was so engrossed in this book that i finished it on the way to a theme park in the backseat of my friend's car. i found myself completely captivated by the protagonist's actions as she goes to great lengths to maintain the facade of a flawless marriage. i will admit, i could see a bit of myself in her character, which is both amusing and slightly concerning! this book really spoke to the anxiously attached girlies out there, in the best and worst way possible. it might just be my favorite read of the year, and one i'm already considering revisiting soon.
for those who enjoy delving into the complexities of human relationships and psychology, with a touch of dark humor. my husband is a compelling read that will keep you thinking about the blurred lines between love and obsession.
tw: infidelity, manipulation, toxic relationships, abuse, gaslighting, mental illness.
Convenience Store Woman gone wrong. Was too long and drawn out. (Update: still thinking about it a month later, up to 3 stars for being thought provoking)
The epilogue was extremely satisfying - the exact ending I was hoping for. Hilarious twist. Super fun read.
I didn't expect to actually love this as much as I did, but it was such an enthralling read. Totally recommended on audio.
Guilty pleasure... Gets increasingly soapy but I'm not above enjoying a psychosexual relationship
Absolutely LOVED this read. 💓 It takes place over the span of one week and was very stream of consciousness and character-building. Well done the WHOLE way through.
There was a lot of really beautiful language in here and quote Worthy passages about womanhood.
But the epilogue....
Epilogue undercuts the entire novel. Most of this is repetitive information and ideas as the writing tries to get across how obsessed the woman is. Everyone keeps talking about the suspense and intrigue and how intense the book is, really I think that sells the book differently than what it is: a microscope over minute details of a relationship. That's all.
Lol this made me feel all sorts of emotions but for the most part...i wanted to shit myself cuz girl WHAT????
Their love dynamic is just so complicated and it is so scary that one can be living in their own head so much like this(so much so that they're literally detached from the outside world)—-and the husband
